WAOE
WIDOWS AND ORPHANS
EMPOWERMENT
UGANDA
This project cares for 150 orphans aged 5 to 17. A Local Council Chairperson must first certify that the child is an orphan, then a representative from the program visits them to determine the need and suitability for the program.
The children’s school fees are paid, as are other costs such as examination costs, stationery, uniforms and meals.
For those who have to travel a long distance to school, the program hires motorcycle riders (known locally as Boda Boda) to take them to and from school.

Children show blankets they have received.
Counselling is provided for those who have been affected by HIV/AIDS, and medical help is provided for all the children. If a child in the program dies, the family are given assistance with funeral arrangements and costs.
Other personal care needs are also provided for the children. Recently all the children were also provided with blankets, because many did not have enough to keep them warm at night, and so were not getting adequate sleep.
